On April 1 of last year, American Kazys Maksvytis, "Žalgiris" and the Lithuanian Basketball Federation decided to make a joke and announce K. Evans' naturalization and joining the Lithuanian national team. However, not all fans understood that it was just an innocent hoax.
"Yes, there were fans who said that I should definitely play for the national team. Some fans I met walking down the street never knew it was just an April Fool's joke. They thought that I would really play for the Lithuanian national team. They were saddened when they found out that it was a joke," said the guide from Kaunas.
Last year, the legionnaire led "Žalgiris" forward in the first half of the season, but the Achilles tendon injury suffered in January forced him to watch the most important matches - Euroleague playoffs, Citadele KMT and Betsafe-LKL finals - from the sidelines.
"It's both a great feeling and an empty feeling. I felt like I didn't contribute, but I was one of the loudest people off the bench back then. I was rooting for my teammates in every game, and also encouraged everyone in training. You feel a part of it, but it's not the same feeling as playing by yourself," the Žalgiris resident recalled last year.
