The Election Code stipulates that regular elections for the President of the Republic are held on the last Sunday 2 months before the end of the term of office of the President of the Republic. The ordinary elections of the President of the Republic are announced Seimas no later than 6 months before the end of the term of office of the President of the Republic.

The day of the presidential election must be indicated in the resolution of the Seimas regarding the regular elections of the President of the Republic.

It is planned that this law will enter into force on the same day as the law amending Article 12 of the Constitution.

Currently, Article 12 of the Constitution stipulates that "Citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania is acquired at birth and on other grounds established by law. Except for individual cases provided for by law, no one can be a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania and another state at the same time. The procedure for acquiring and losing citizenship is determined by law."
