The fact that many more new speedometers will appear on the streets of Vilnius is no longer a secret to anyone. They are installed in the city additionally every year. However, they are changing locations speedometers, which will be installed in empty meter housings, will surprise many.

"Empty meter housings will be installed, they will be installed in ten of the 60 preliminarily planned sections. The purpose of these body kits is basically preventive, but one of them will have a mobile average speed measuring equipment installed and working. The location of both the empty bodies and the mobile average speed measuring equipment placed in them will be periodically changed," says Gabrielius Grubinskas, Vilnius city municipalities Media relations specialist.

In this way, the municipality aims to make drivers be more careful on the streets and start driving according to road traffic rules. It is not known which empty housing will house the trespasser camera. No one will announce it, but to notice that it is exactly in one of the 60 installed mock-ups will be sure speed meter almost impossible.

Recently, observant residents noticed that Geležinio Vilko st. new average speedometers are installed. The equipment is not working yet, it is still being installed. However, this situation will not last long - it is expected that the meters will start working already in the summer.

"Medium speed meters are currently being installed in Vilnius. The equipment will be installed by the end of this month, then testing and calibration will begin, which should take about a couple of months. It is expected that the average speed meters will start working in normal mode this summer", says the specialist.

There will be four sets of such gauges in total. One has already been installed in Geležinio Vilko st. The others will be installed on T. Narbutos Street and the Western Ring Road.

Speed meters are installed in those parts of the city where complaints about speeding and other violations of rules are constantly received. Since stationary speed meters are no longer effective in some places, the municipality decided to test average speed meters in the city. It cannot be ruled out that more of them may be installed in Vilnius in the future.
