Vilnius is preparing to announce a tender for the purchase of passenger transport services - electric and hydrogen buses are being sought, but the business says that transport powered by biomethane would be a lower financial burden - the costs of transporting passengers on buses powered by this fuel would be the same as diesel buses, and 80-90% would be emitted into the environment . less carbon dioxide, writes "Verslo žinios" on Friday.

Darius Snieška, the head of the Scania Lietuva company, calculates that for now it is not worthwhile for the city to choose only electric or hydrogen-powered transport, because, according to him, a 12-meter-long biomethane-powered bus costs about 300. EUR, the electric model of the same length - 450 thousand. euros.

According to Martynas Nagevičius, head of the Lithuanian Renewable Resources Energy Confederation, electric buses would also need charging infrastructure, which would be expensive - 300 charging stations would be needed to charge new electric buses, and such an infrastructure would require about 45 megawatts of total charging power. According to him, this means huge funds for the installation of new transmission and distribution lines and substations.
