Yesterday, while standing in a traffic jam, a Czech captured a new Vilnius trolleybus, which was probably going to Lithuania. The image was shared in a Facebook group. It will become clear soon whether the tractor will bring the trolleybus to Vilnius.
There is no doubt that this is a new Vilnius trolleybus: it is painted red, and the side of the trolleybus features the symbol of the city - the tower of Gediminas Castle.
"Currently, we have signed a contract for the purchase of 91 new trolleybuses, it is planned that in 2024 in the summer, 20 trolleybuses will reach the streets of the capital. According to the signed contract, the remaining 71 will leave the streets of Vilnius in 2025. in the months of January-March and will replace most of the old ŠKODA trolleybuses, - previously commented Vilniaus public transport representative, Rita Zinkeviče.
The new trolleybuses are low-floor trolleybuses of the Škoda 32Tr model. They are 12 meters long, roll autonomously, and can travel up to 20 km without a contact network. The trolleys are also equipped with a safety system - SOS and A-band buttons that record events on video, collision protection and automatic fire extinguishing.
Also, the trolleybus is fully air-conditioned and ventilated both in the passenger cabin and in the driver's cabin. Public transport is also adapted for people with individual needs - trolleybuses are equipped with a ramp, fastening belts, and special buttons for reporting the need for help. The trolleybus has bicycle mounting equipment that allows you to carry bicycles in the trolleybus cabin.
