The council of the capital municipality approved the resolution, which proposes to the Commission of Historical Memory to take action on in Ukraine commemoration of the fallen soldier volunteer Tad Tumas and film director Mantas Kvedaravičius in Vilnius.
The commission, in cooperation with the municipal administration, is tasked with finding possible ways of commemorating the citizens of the country who died in Ukraine. According to the authors of the resolution, Lithuanian victims in Vilnius must be properly honored.
"In my opinion, we could make a political decision - to change the name of Rusų Street to one of the dead Lithuanians - it would be logical to name it after Tad Tumas", said Aurimas Navys, speaker of the issue, a member of the conservative faction in the Vilnius City Council, at the municipal meeting on Wednesday.
ELTA reminds that in the spring of 2022, the film director, cultural anthropologist M. Kvedaravičius was killed in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.
At the end of February this year, a Lithuanian born in 1981 also died in Ukraine a soldier T. Tumas. Earlier, it was also reported about several Lithuanian soldiers wounded in the battles.
