After extinguishing the fire that broke out in a car scrapyard in Vilnius on Wednesday, environmentalists will investigate how many pollutants have entered the environment, reports Edgaras Skrebė, a representative of the Department of Environmental Protection (AAD). "Environmentalists responded immediately, we ensured that extinguishing water did not enter surface sewage systems, we took air and water samples. A new phase of work begins today. Inspections of the metal purchasing and processing company will begin, it will be calculated how much and what kind of waste was burned, what pollutants could enter the air. And certain control actions will simply be applied," Edgaras Skrebė said to LRT radio on Thursday.

"According to preliminary data, the company has a pollution permit," he added.

An AAD spokesperson mentioned that Air pollution spread through Vilnius Lazdynas and Pilaitė districts.

"Regarding air pollution, the Environmental Protection Agency has shared primary data on air pollution. It can be seen that the pollution has spread in the West-North direction from the focus of the fire, through Lazdynes to Pilaitė", he mentioned.
