A few days ago, the officers of the Vilnius Wildlife Protection Inspectorate of the Department of Environmental Protection (APD), having received information that a citizen was drying fishing nets in the yard of his homestead in the Švenčioni district, went to check and found 98 nets, the total length of which is about 10 kilometers, according to the APD press release.
During the inspection, it turned out that the person had accumulated a lot of net fishing gear - a total of 98 nets were taken with a total length of about 10 kilometers, as well as 4 river traps (ventries) and 4 devices used to build nets under the ice (missiles).
"This is not the first time a person has been caught for violating fishing rules. He faces a fine of 60 to 200 euros with the confiscation of non-amateur fishing gear," the report states.
On the same day, according to the received information, an ambush was organized in the Trakai district near Švenčiaus lake, in which a part-time environmental protection inspector also participated. A person who placed 10 buoys from a boat and used fish as bait was arrested.
Vilnius GGAI officials point out that no more than 2 tools can be used during one fishing (does not apply to pike fishing), which are used for fishing using a fish or a piece of it as bait.
"A person caught a starling while fishing illegally - damage to natural resources - 240 euros. The person faces a fine of 120 to 300 euros with the confiscation of the buoys and the boat," the report reads.
During the inspection of this person's homestead, Vilnius environmentalists found two construction nets. As a result, the person faces another fine from 60 to 200 euros with confiscation of networks.
