The presentation ceremony of the vision of Jomanto Park was held in the dome located in the Baltupiai pro-gymnasium. Specialists of "Vilnius City Parks" and "Vilnius Plan" presented vision solutions and invited residents to comment. After the presentation, forester Raimundas Ereminas invited the audience to walk to the park and look at the park through the eyes of a forester. In the presented vision, Jomanto Park is proposed to be seen as a forest park dedicated to nature awareness, nurturing and education.

Will solve security issues in the park

The analysis revealed that one of the main problems faced by visitors in the park is the feeling of insecurity. 66% of the survey participants say that they feel unsafe in the park after dark. Worn-out asphalt also contributes to the feeling of insecurity. The vision of the park envisages the installation of lighting on the main paths used for transit, and the renewal of the worn-out existing asphalt surface. It is being considered that part of the lighting would be turned off at night, in order to reduce the impact of artificial light on the plants and animals of the park. Forest stairs are planned to be installed on the slopes in the western part of the park at the so-called tracks, where the main movement takes place. The places of the stairs are chosen according to the pedestrian connections named in the workshop and so that they do not coincide with the slopes on which sledding is allowed in winter. During the presentation of the vision, visitors noted that they would see a need for additional forest stairs going down from Kalvarijju street to the park in the more northern part of the park. In other proposed areas of the stairs, where the slopes are not so steep, it is proposed to install individual handrails.

The western part of the park is for activities, and the eastern part is for recreation

Both in 2023 February. a population survey was conducted, both on March 1 the held creative workshop showed that visitors would like to see as few changes as possible in the eastern part of the park. The part of the park characterized by mature trees is mainly used for relaxation and leisurely walks. In the vision, the path in the ditch is proposed to be called a path of quiet recreation. This trail will remain as is - unpaved and unlit. In places where puddles form, it is suggested to use stone blocks. Where the moat path connects with Ateitis street, it is planned to install a ramp - a slope that would facilitate movement for residents with impaired mobility, parents with wheelchairs.

Meanwhile, the western part of the park, which is actively used for pedestrian transit, is proposed to be filled with several functional areas. It is planned to install an outdoor classroom, an outdoor toilet, drinking water fountains, swings and a space for games and nature exploration in the existing clearings on the trails. The paths will also be filled with benches and trash cans.

It is important to note that the space for games and learning about nature will be created with the help of natural means and, as far as possible, already existing in the park: trees, donuts, pebbles, etc.

About the project and further steps

January 2022 - March 2023 "Vilnius Planas" together with "Vilnius City Parks" invited residents to participate in a survey and creative workshops. These tools allowed us to better understand the needs of visitors for changes in the park and what kind of park residents want to see in the future. The goal of the project is to create a vision of Jomanto Park and an action plan for its implementation together with park visitors.

April - June 2023 The vision of Jomanto Park will be approved by the municipality. It is planned that the first work on the implementation of the vision in the park will begin in August - September 2023.
