Passenger transport companyLTG LinkStarlink is starting to install satellite internet connection in trains, from now on 3 trains are already equipped with satellite connection, in autumn another 4 will be equipped with satellite connection. Trains with satellite internet connection will run on the most popular routes Vilnius-Riga and Vilnius-Klaipeda, because these routes have more road sections where the normal internet connection is weak. Other trains are scheduled to be strengthened with 5G internet connection by the end of the year.
Currently, when trains pass through forested and remote areas of Lithuania, the Internet connection works with disturbances, therefore, in order to further strengthen the quality of the Internet connection, additional innovations were sought. From now on, trains with satellite internet connection will run on the most popular routes Vilnius-Riga and Vilnius-Klaipėda, other trains are scheduled to be strengthened with 5G internet connection by the end of the year.
"We want every trip to be pleasant and comfortable for train passengers. Of course, the trip loses its charm without a good Internet connection, which allows you to work, watch a movie, or listen to your favorite music without interruption. Therefore, we searched for and found solutions that will help maintain a stable and fast Internet connection on trains", says Kristina Meidė, head of LTG Link.
It is expected that satellite Internet will be automatically activated in those sections where the usual Internet connection is weak, so both satellite and mobile communication technologies will be used effectively at the same time. Internet connection in trains is influenced by the number of passengers using the Internet, the geographical position of the train and the operator's towers near the route.
Wireless internet connection in trains is important both for passengers using it for their own needs and for convenient payment for services with a payment card. Currently, 3 trains are already equipped with satellite communication, in the fall satellite communication will be installed in 4 more trains.
