During the record-breaking renovation works of the capital's streets, great attention is paid to quality, so that asphalting technicians do not have to return to the same street only after the warranty period has expired.
As a result, when repairing the streets, only granite curbs are installed everywhere, which are more durable than concrete ones, and granite sidewalks are installed in the representative part of the city. The street lighting supports will also be updated and replaced, and the wells on the roadway will be maintained. In order to ensure the durability of the asphalted road surface, asphalt with polymer fillers is laid on the streets with intense traffic, which wears less.
Quality control of works for defects has been carried out by laser street scanning for the past few years. in 2023 almost 1,2 thousand were scanned by a specialized vehicle with laser scanning equipment. kilometers of streets in the capital. 2021-2022 1009 km of the capital's streets were scanned, the total number of kilometers traveled in different street lanes reached 2150 km.
The plans include street reconstructions, strategic projects and quiet traffic streets
Over the next few years Vilnius city municipality plans to implement 7 more strategic transportation infrastructure projects. In this list - Nemenčinės pl. reconstruction, which will start already this year, as well as the reconstruction of the highway of the Republic of Both Nations, the reconstruction of the Gariūnai-Jočioni intersection, Tarandės str. reconstruction, Mykolo Lietuvio st. constructions, Loksininkai st. and Oikslininkai–Geležinio Vilko st. intersection reconstruction, etc.
Currently, preparations are also being made for the reconstruction of 54 streets in the capital, and reconstruction projects are being prepared. Most of the reconstruction projects will start next year.
At the same time, attention is paid to 40 streets of residential blocks with intense traffic, which will eventually become streets with quiet traffic.
Quiet traffic streets will be designed to ensure safety for pedestrians and micromobility users using the same street space where inner blocks of houses, public institutions and high population concentrations prevail. When designing quiet traffic streets, great attention will be paid to the involvement of residents in decision-making, public consultations, surveys and creative workshops will be held.
