Vilnius city public transport the infrastructure is not suitable for foreigners - this is the conclusion of Vilnius residents who traveled home from the airport at least once by public transport. On social networks, a resident shared a situation when a foreigner, not having cash, could not buy a ticket - after all, she had to pay by card in public transport still no chance.

Almost everywhere in major European cities, even more so in capitals, foreigners can buy public transport tickets at special ticket machines. In some places, you can also buy tickets inside public transport. However, in Vilnius, foreigners do not have the opportunity to buy tickets either in ticket machines (they simply do not exist in the city) or inside the transport. Although the new composters are adapted to accept tickets on bank cards, this system is not yet operational.

"We hope that we will be able to inform about the purchase of one-time tickets in public transport with a contactless card already in the second half of this year", - commented the situation of SI "Communication services” (JUDU) Communication specialist, Greta Vasiliauskaitė.

Is it possible to buy a ticket before the system is launched, without having a Vilnius resident card and cash? In theory, there are mobile apps. However, foreigners do not always have internet working abroad on their phones, and Vilnius residents have repeatedly mentioned that it is not possible to download the app without a Lithuanian number. In addition, the minimum cart amount in the "Trafi" app is 5 euros. In this way, the tourist should buy not one, but several one-time tickets at once.

So what's a tourist to do? It seems that it remains to be hoped that it will not be checked by passenger control. In the best case, find 1 euro and buy a ticket from a public transport driver.
