It's no secret that not just one Vilnius resident Vilnius public transport has already managed to become an object of ridicule. Does he turn to the gas station, or is he late and does not come, or does he turn around in the middle of the street. This time "modern tram" (that's what the city mayor used to call trolleybuses Valdas Benkunskas) surprised even those who saw everything: the door broke in it.

This incident was recorded by the residents of Vilnius themselves. On Wednesday (March 20) at the Pamėnkalnis stop, residents noticed an old trolleybus with no passengers and only a door that had fallen inside the vehicle. Vilnius Public Transport agreed to comment on what happened.

"It happened at the Pamėnkalnis stop of the trolleybus route 7, when all the passengers had gotten off and boarded, there were no people near the door that fell in, so no one was hurt. After the door broke, the driver informed the passengers about the interrupted route and opened the other two doors of the trolleybus so that they could leave safely", comments UAB "Vilniaus viešasis transportas".

As the company explains, the trolleybus was taken to the repair workshop. The trolleybus is ready to roll out onto the streets again - the door has been repaired, it was enough to replace one worn part.

"Although we regularly check all vehicles to ensure smooth journeys for residents and guests of the city of Vilnius, the wear and tear of some parts is not visible to the naked eye, as happened in this case," says the company.

The first new trolleybuses, which will replace all the old ones, should reach Vilnius already in the summer public transport trolleybuses in the park. Although a trolleybus is not a tram, the probability of a broken door in new trolleybuses is extremely low.

Although the new trolleybuses will arrive in Vilnius already in the summer, there will be only 20 of them. These are low-floor trolleybuses of the Škoda 32Tr model. They are 12 meters long, roll autonomously, and can travel up to 20 km without a contact network. The trolleys also have a safety system - SOS and A-band buttons that record events on video, collision protection and automatic fire extinguishing. A large part of the new trolleybuses will not arrive in Lithuania this year. There will be a total of 91 new trolleybuses in Vilnius next year.
