Accelerating Vilnius airport the reconstruction brings important traffic changes at the approaches to the airport gates. Drivers and passengers will have to change their old habits - on April 29, the car access road to the departure terminal (hereinafter referred to as the ramp), through which many passengers and their accompanying persons used to arrive at the entrance on the second floor, will be permanently closed. In May of this year, the so-called "Kiss and Fly" zone, where passengers are dropped off, will operate only at PC and P3 sites. Cars bringing passengers will be able to park for free for 15 minutes at the "Kiss and Fly" lots.

"Next year, we will open the new departure terminal, the capacity of which will double: from 1200 passengers per hour to 2400. In order for the capacity to function smoothly, this year the reorganization of the parking lots and the traffic scheme is being actively implemented, which will ensure convenient access to the new terminal and allow for better control of traffic flows. ", says Arnas Dūmanas, Head of the Infrastructure Development Department of Lithuanian Airports.

From April 29 Vilnius airport there is no longer a normal approach to the departure terminal. Passengers brought by accompanying persons or arriving in their own cars will be directed to other places intended for short-term stopovers or long-term parking. Simultaneously Vilnius airport remains easily and simply accessible by public transport. Once the changes begin, the old ramp leading to the entrance to the departure terminal will be open only to airport services and passengers with individual needs who have filled out the form in advance.

In order to control the temporary changes in the approaches to Vilnius airport, more than 10 employees are employed, who will provide information and help passengers orientate themselves during the reconstruction period 7 hours a day, XNUMX days a week.

The construction of the new departure terminal of the airport will be completed in October 2024. The works are divided into phases in order to minimize the impact on parking services during the transition period.

According to A. Dūmans, after the reconstruction of the country's largest airport, the existing transport access scheme will fundamentally change, which will be more clearly understood, oriented and adapted for passengers to conveniently reach the new departure and existing terminal. It will also be strengthened public transport and carrier integration.

According to the plan for the transformation of the traffic scheme, it is planned to expand the area of the parking and other traffic area to 17 thousand square meters. sq. m. All the currently existing parking lots will be connected into one whole - this solution will increase the traffic capacity twice compared to the current one.

During the implementation of the project, it is planned to renew the surface sewage collection system, all surfaces, lighting, install roofs, parking places for bicycles, install charging stations for electric cars, and green the area.

During all the reconstructions, long-term multi-storey parking lots where cars can be left for a longer period of time will continue to operate without interruption at Vilnius Airport.

From June 3rd, the third, last phase of the reconstruction of the accesses will begin, which will change the movement scheme again. More details will be provided in mid-May. Given the fact that the stages of access reconstruction will change often enough, Lithuanian airports urges passengers planning to go to Vilnius airport by car to look into the valid parking regulations and schemes in advance, as the usual entry roads and parking places will have changed.
