After the end of the war, in 1945, slightly more than 160 carriages drove in Vilnius, so immediately after the war non-motorized transport still dominated in the capital. However, in the post-war years, public transport in the capital of Lithuania had to be fundamentally rebuilt. 1946 is considered the beginning of this new phase. March 13, when the first regular bus route was opened Zoo - Railway the station and motorized transport rolled out onto the streets - the first post-war buses. In general, the Vilnius city passenger transport office had 17 old trophy buses. in 1950 ten bus lines were already operating in the capital.

And although two more bus stations were later opened in Vilnius in order to make public transport more efficient, it became clear that in the long run, bus routes alone will not be enough in the city.

In order to meet the growing travel needs of the population, in 1956 the domination of the "greenest" means of transport, which continues to this day, began in the capital - the Vilnius trolleybus park was established and a 7,8 kilometer long contact network was built. The park began its life with 8 trolleybuses carrying passengers along the route Antakalnis - The station. The planned number of trolleybuses was 25, and about 50 employees worked on the trolleybus network.

A year later, in 1957, the second route was implemented The station is Žvērynas. Thus, new catenary lines were built every year and newer routes were created.

Therefore, in 1967, eleven years after the first trolleybuses rolled out onto the streets, the city of Vilnius could be proud of as many as 13 routes, the total length of which reached 217 kilometers. And by 1975, almost all of the capital's routes operating today were installed - together their network already reached 480,6 kilometers.

At that time, the Vilnius bus park in 1970 already had 572 buses, of which 192 were constantly working in the city. In 1971. there were 33 routes in the capital, and the number of buses running daily in the city increased to 210.
