In Berlin (Germany) on Friday evening, Dans Rapšys won the gold of the "World Aquatics" World Swimming Cup. On the first day of the competition, the Lithuanian man triumphed in the men's 400 m freestyle final.
The 28-year-old from Panevėžys started from the side track in the evening, but that didn't stop him at all.
The representative of Lithuania led the entire distance and finished in 3 minutes. 44,86 seconds, bettering a personal best of the season.
Sweden's Victor Johansson came second (3 minutes 48,07 seconds), and American Kieran Smith came third (3 minutes 48,40 seconds).
We will remind you that the Lithuanian took 9th place in the morning qualification, when he covered the distance in 3 minutes. 51,75 sec.
0,03 seconds separated the Panevėžys from the final eight, but the German Lukas Märtens (3 min. 50,61 sec.), who was fourth in the overall standings, decided not to start in the finals, so the swimming lane became free for our man.
Before the Olympic year, competitions are traditionally held in a 50 m long pool, so all swimmers participating here have the opportunity to meet the qualification standards for the Paris Olympic Games.
The morning part of the competition starts at 10 am. Lithuanian time, and evening swims - from 19 p.m.
