Yesterday, he appeared in the Kaunas long throw championship for the first time this year Andrius Gudžius (trainer - Vaclov Kidykas). The latter threw the discus as much as 69.35 m and recorded the second best result in the world and the third result of his career (personal record - 69.59). By the way, out of the six shots made, this was the only attempt that was scored.

The discus thrower prepared for the season this year in camps in Tenerife and Portugal. "We came back to Portugal after several years, it's nothing special and exclusive", A. Gudžius shared his experience. The track and field athlete was happy with his athletic form at the current stage of the season: "The discus flies well, it's far, but I still miss 1-3 cm on the hoop. The sector is too small, it is difficult to fit in."

"We didn't prepare for this competition on purpose, but this is a great place to test our strength," said Andrius about the Kaunas long throw championship, which he tries to participate in every year. The nearest starts of the discus thrower are the Lithuanian long throw championship in Palanga (gJune 6-7) and the Diamond League stage in Morocco (May 28).

"Now the main goal is to enter the season, because one thing is to train, and the other is to realize yourself in the competition," said the lightweight athlete. The discus thrower said that preparations for the World Championship have already begun, so it is important to gain experience and participate in high-ranking competitions.

This year, the World Athletics Championships will be held in Budapest (Hungary). We will definitely see A. Gudžių in the championship, which will be held on August 19-27, because he has fulfilled the norm. "Competition is definitely there and it increases every year, that's how it should be," said Andrius, who won this title in 2017, about the upcoming World Championship.

According to A. Gudžius, 5-6 athletes are capable of fighting for the discus gold medal at the World Championship: "Now it is inadequate to evaluate the results when we are throwing in different places. It's more interesting when we all compete with each other, then the results suffer."
