Over the weekend, the Palanga Stadium hosted the Lithuanian Long Throw Championship, where hammer, javelin and discus throwers competed. In the competition, the 2 best results of the Lithuanian season were recorded, and the champions became the athletes who confirmed the status of favorites in the competition.

Having won the Lithuanian long throw championship for the eighth time Andrius Gudžius threw the discus 65.90 m and regretted the unfavorable wind: "If the wind had been in a different direction, I would have made the throws of my life."

However, A. Gudžius, who likened the competition to a good psychological training, did not complain about the quality of the throws: "Although the throwing conditions were really difficult, the throws themselves were technical, so if the wind was more favorable, the discus could fly about 70m."

Andriaus' next competition is scheduled for May 28, when the Diamond League stage will be held in Rabat (Morocco).

He finished second in the discus throw Martynas Alekna (58.68 m), and took the third place Aleksas Abromavicius (58.07 m).

She confidently triumphed in the women's discus throw group and won the Lithuanian long throw championship for the third time in a row Ieva Zarankaite. The latter started the discus throw for the third time this year, and today she threw the discus 58.89 m.

Emphasizing the flurry at the beginning of the season, I. Zarankaitė did not hide that today she planned to throw the discus further: "I wanted and hoped to throw the discus further than 60 m, but I lacked speed and finish."

"I am happy with the stability shown in the competition (in all three competitions, the disc flew beyond the 58 m limit - aut. past), but I still need to work to be ready for the most important competitions of the season in the summer", said I. Zarankaitė.

"In the second half of May, I will start competitions in Germany, Cyprus, Estonia, so the current goal is to manage my technique and develop my speed better," said Ieva, who is going to throw the 60 m mark.

He took the second place in the competition Paulina Stuglytė (48.58 m), and the third remained Sonata Rudyte (44.93 m).

Having recorded the best result of the Lithuanian season (68.91 m) in the hammer throw sector on Saturday Tomas Vasiliauskas has been winning the hammer event in this championship since 2012 (only in 2020 the championship did not take place due to the pandemic - aut. past).

"Since I was sick a couple of days ago, I did not expect much from this competition, so the result is pleasing," said T. Vasiliauskas.

The hammer thrower, who was happy with his form, said that the results should improve in the future: "In the camp, the hammer flew over 69 m, and before the competition, something kept getting in the way, so there is certainly a reserve to reach at least the 70 m mark."

"After this competition, I will return to the training process, and at the beginning of June I am planning a couple of starts abroad", said T. Vasiliauskas.

He finished second in the hammer throw event Tomas Juknevičius (57.20 m), the third - Lukas Simonavičius (51.68 m). In the women's group, they won for the second year in a row Mairita Pajėdaitė (45.64 m), whose hammer flew at least 10 m further than other prize winners.

He won the javelin throw by recording the best result of the season in Lithuania Tomas Sabašinskas (66.30 m) and Paulina Kėsylytė (39.25 m). The strongest javelin throwers of the country did not compete in this championship - Liveta Jasiūnaitė ir Edis Matusevičius.
