The Olympic champion Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė added silver to her trophy collection from the Tokyo Olympic Games. She finished second in the modern pentathlon, despite being 13th before the final event. Gintarė Venčkauskaitė crossed the finish line seventh.

This is the first medal for Lithuanian athletes at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

In the decisive event - combined running and shooting - L.Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė ran to the track after 52 seconds. since then the leading Uljana Batashova from the Russian Olympic Committee started, and G.Venčkauskaitė was in 24th place and started the run after 1 min. 13 sec. from the start of Russia.

But after that, the Lithuanians beat one opponent after another. L.Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė did not catch up only to British Kate French, who became the champion.

Today's competition started in the temporary 25 m swimming pool installed at the Tokyo Stadium. Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė scored 200 points (276 min. 2 sec.; 17,21th place) in the 25 m freestyle event held here, while Gintarė Venčkauskaitė scored 274 (2 min. 18,37 sec.; 30th place). The athlete of the Russian Olympic Committee, Gulnaz Gubaidulina, who set a new Olympic record, swam the fastest (2 min. 7,31 sec.).

In the general standings, L. Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė with 466 points dropped from the 25th place in yesterday's main fencing event to the 27th place, while G. Venčkauskaitė, with 446 points, rose from the 34th to the 33rd place. German Annika Schleu (551 points) kept the first place.

Soon after the swimming competition, an additional fencing round took place. Here, the last two ranked athletes meet first. The winner goes on to face the higher-ranked opponent, so the last one standing in these fights has to face the leader of the general standings. Only one point is awarded for a victory.

In the additional fencing round, L.Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė added two points to her account, G.Venčkauskaitė – one. Their positions have not changed.

The equestrian course consists of 12 obstacles, but 15 jumps are required. Each athlete has 300 points before riding. That's how many you can win if you don't drop a single obstacle and don't exceed the time limit. 7 points are deducted for each obstacle dropped, minus 10 - for stopping, 1 point - for each exceeded second of riding time. When a stubborn horse doesn't jump over a hurdle at all or throws a rider, it's possible to get no points at all. Then the battle in the multiplayer is already over.

G. Venčkauskaitė started fourth with her horse in Farom, at that time the horses were already out of control and two athletes withdrew from the competition. But the Lithuanian passed the entire route without mistakes and scored the maximum number of points - 300.

in 2012 London Olympic champion L. Asadauskaitei-Zadenprovskienei was lucky to ride Jhonu. And this horse obeyed the Lithuanian athlete - he successfully overcame all obstacles and secured 300 points. More than one athlete failed to save the maximum number of points.

The horse Saint Boy proved to be the most difficult to tame. He ended the Olympic Games ahead of time for both the Olympic record holder G. Gubaidulina and the leader of the competition A. Schleu.

The decisive combined running and shooting event will start at 13.45:4 p.m. Lithuanian time. All points are converted to seconds before the combined event. The leader of the competition starts first, and the others start at such an interval, how many seconds are behind him. Athletes need to complete 800 laps of 4 m each and "extinguish" five target lights 50 times in the shooting range with a laser gun as quickly as possible. True, and not hitting all targets after XNUMX seconds. the athlete can run further.

Tomorrow, the men will fight on the second day of the competition. Among them is Justin Kinderis, who shares 3-4 places with Belarusian Ilja Palazkov after yesterday's fencing.

There is another Lithuanian in the modern pentathlon competition of the Tokyo Games - Beijing Olympic vice-champion Edvinas Krungolcs. This is the second Olympic Games in a row where a Lithuanian works as an arbiter.

in 2004 of Athens and 2008 Having participated in the Beijing Olympic Games as an athlete, E. Krungolcas is now a top-level judge of modern pentathlon. There are twelve like him in the whole world.
