Underground pedestrian crossing Constitution Avenue, next to PC Europe, has been closed for more than half a year. Repairs are underway there, after which this busy city crossing should be largely renewed. Although it was previously promised that the crossing would be operational already in June, the municipality reported sad news. The crossing will not be open in the summer yet.
"Completion of the underpass at Artery and Europa is planned for September of this year, and the overall construction process is planned for October. Until the reconstruction is completed, the territory is considered a construction site and cannot be opened to the public", commented Irmantas Kuzas, Vilnius city municipalities Public information specialist.
Information can still be seen on the fence boards that the crossing was supposed to open in June. The municipality will call on the contractors to change the billboards that are misleading the residents. This will have to be done by the contractors in the near future.
After renovation Constitution Avenue the underground pedestrian crossing will become safer and more convenient.
During the reconstruction, worn structures of the building were replaced, a public toilet, a new elevator and a new ventilation system were installed. After the reconstruction, another exit will appear on the left side of Konstitucijos Avenue for the convenience of residents - from Europa Square, an underground pedestrian crossing will allow access not only to the other side of the street, but also to the White Bridge.
