About Konstitucijos Ave. We have written about the existing underground passage more than once. From the very beginning, it was promised that it would be opened in the summer, then in the fall. The last time the crossing was expected to be opened before the new year, but these plans did not materialize either. MadeinVilnius.lt's photographer visited the unfenced part of the crossing (from Europa Square) and was surprised - neither the ceiling nor the tiles have been changed, and visually the crossing looks like before the reconstruction.
The municipality does not deny this information - yes, visually this part of the crossing has not been updated.
"The reconstruction of the underground pedestrian crossing is related to the Artery business center project, so most of the work took place on that side of the street. During the entire reconstruction period, the entrance to the underpass from the side of Europa Square was not restricted due to the shops operating in the underpass. In the underground passage, the floor slabs were strengthened, the ceiling and lighting were replaced in part of the passage, and a toilet was installed. Later, waterproofing repair is expected on the side of Europa Square, a decision will be made on renewing the floor tiles", commented Gabrielius Grubinskas to the portal. The municipality also commented on why they did not open the crossing until the new year. It got in the way - weather conditions that prevented the completion of the necessary works. There are also pluses in this whole situation - the crossing will finally be opened in the coming days.
However, the people of Vilnius, at least for now, will have to walk on old slippery tiles. At least from the European side to the now fenced area. It is encouraging that finally, after more than a year of reconstruction, the crossing will be opened, and it will be convenient for Vilnius residents to cross to the other side of the street again.
It is likely that together with the underpass, the Artery business center will be opened.
