December 8-22 The Liepkalnis Christmas Town will be located in the Liepkalnis water storage facility - a place of festive entertainment for Vilnius residents and guests of the city.

Meetings with Santa Claus, "Workshops", "Mama knows best" sustainability, ceramics, traditional Lithuanian amber, candle casting or garden tying workshops will be held in the unique, underground, hundred-year-old Liepkalnis water place, as well as lesser-known activities: making toys in the traditional Japanese way kimekomi technique, Japanese gift wrapping furoshiki, Korean knot tying, tea ceremonies and more.

The Liepkalnis water storage was opened for visits last summer, until now there have been tours organized by the guides of the Museum of Energy and Technology. On the initiative of the museum, in December, the six-meter-deep underground waterhole will be transformed into a heated, festive and cozy workshop space. A fire installation and trade fair will be located in the outdoor area.

Technical creativity in an impressive watering hole

Original fire installations have been created by a group of artists since autumn. “This holiday season, we are reviving a century-old water management facility, the only water storage facility open to the public. We will invite Vilnius residents and guests of the city not only to participate in the workshop, to make or make gifts, to meet Santa Claus, but also to see original fire installations created especially for this space," said Mykolas Bistrickas, director of the Museum of Energy and Technology.

The essence of the installation path, which surrounds the dome of the watering hole from the outside, is a combination of creativity and engineering prowess. "Each installation is a carefully designed and constructed part of a technological creation. These installations are a testament to the integration of art and technical ingenuity in reviving a historic storage facility and attracting visitors to the Liepkalnis Reservoir, which is a technically impressive structure in itself. I am happy that in Liepkalnis we will spread the festive mood until Christmas, and at the same time we will encourage the public to be interested in technical creativity and craftsmanship", said M. Bistrickas.

From sustainability to oriental gifts

Workshops will be organized by the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center, Maišiagala Traditional Crafts Center, Asian Arts Center, ARZA Gallery and various artists at the Liepkalnis Water Storage.

The workshop will surprise you with the abundance of techniques: Christmas gifts and decorations will be made from paper, wood, wax, wool, clay, crayons or leather. Visitors will be able to learn ex-libris, monotype art, linocut, gingerbread decoration, the sustainability workshop "Mama knows better" awaits the little ones, during which children will be taught to think creatively and make unique Christmas toys, gnome hats or paper owls from recycled materials. The workshop will be paid for - its organizers will provide all the necessary materials and tools.

The created works will be offered as gifts to children's and old people's homes - before the holidays, the gifts will be delivered to Vilnius district institutions.

Another illuminating installation - a wish-fulfilling apple tree - will be created by Ukrainian artist Alesia Shulgina. At the end of the event, her works will be auctioned, the funds will be allocated to the author who fled the war.
