The fire that broke out in the car wrecker located in Panerių St. in Vilnius has not yet been localized, the fire extinguishing work continues, says Donatas Gurevičius, a PAGD representative working at the scene. According to him, it is likely that firefighters will work at the fire site until the morning.

"The fire is being extinguished, the location of the fire has not been announced," D. Gurevičius informed Elta.

However, according to him, there are currently no risks that the fire will spread further. A large fire brigade continues to work at the scene, the PAGD representative claims.

"We have one of the company's managers who is cooperating. Their (the company - ELTA) equipment is used, and the approximately 6-meter-high pile of shredded metal and various waste is being re-excavated. And firefighters are still putting out open fires that have flared up in some places. There is enough water to extinguish the fire," said D. Gurevičius.

"There are about 10 fire trucks of various purposes, (…) up to 40 officers of the state fire rescue service, the headquarters is established where we have contact with all the forces we need," he emphasizes.

According to him, environmentalists, medics and police officers are also working at the scene, and they have blocked off a part of Panerių street.

D. Gurevičius once again warns residents about increased pollution. According to him, risks also arise due to the large quantities of water used for extinguishing the fire by firefighters.

"When a particularly large amount of water is poured, it is also necessary to monitor where that water goes, because it is poured into piles of metal waste and drains somewhere. The local environmentalists are also following that process," he emphasized.

According to the PAGD representative, it is still too early to talk about the cause of the fire. He predicts that the fire will have to be extinguished overnight.

According to PAGD, the fire was reported at 18 p.m. 32 min. According to PAGD, no victims have been reported yet.

The Director of Corporate Affairs of Lietuvos Geležinkėlių (LTG) Group Aleksandras Zubriakovas confirmed to Eltai that fire originated in the territory of "Lietuvos geležinkėlių". However, the company UAB "Ruvis" is currently located in the area where the fire broke out.

The National Public Health Center (NVSC) is urging residents to close windows and not go outside due to increased pollution.

NVSC also recommends institutions near the scene to continue the educational process remotely on Thursday.

"It is known that the smoke arising during a fire is particularly toxic, therefore educational institutions located near the fire are recommended to continue the educational process due to possible negative health effects
