"Lithuanian railways(LTG) is testing a new technology at the crossings - an innovative video camera has been installed at one of the crossings in Vilnius, with the help of which the position, distance and size of objects crossing the crossing can be monitored in real time.
"In order to improve the safety of both railway transport and car and pedestrian traffic, we are looking for innovative solutions that can be adapted to the existing infrastructure and thus meet the highest security requirements, as well as improve the efficiency of the infrastructure and create opportunities for optimizing traffic flows," says LTG technology director Vytautas Bitin.
It is announced that during the two-month pilot project, cases of violation of the defined parameter zones will be identified: obstacles in the territory of the crossing, gauges of passing trains and the approach of outsiders to structures and devices installed near the crossing.
It is considered that such data and their analysis using artificial intelligence tools will help prevent traffic accidents and can be used to make decisions about the installation of additional safety measures.
