One could already create fairy tales about the sidewalks of Vilnius, but they are extremely realistic. Recently, residents shared photos where we can see that the sidewalks are separated by a one-meter-wide green lawn in Pashilaičiai ward. Not enough tiles? The answer is no, but the municipality will investigate why this happened.
Such a view can be seen in two places next to each other. Near Pashilaičius St. 9 house yard and Gabija gymnasium. If near Pashilaičius St. the sidewalks of the house were renovated a few years ago according to a coordinated project, during which the street was also adapted for the movement of disabled people, so how the tiles appeared as an extension of the sidewalk near the gymnasium - not even the municipality knows.
"Gabija high school recently installed a fence, which leaves a passage along the path paved with tiles on the school territory, but this path does not meet the regulatory requirements and is not coordinated - in fact, the tiles could have been moved during the installation of the fence, connecting the sidewalks to each other," says Gabrielius Grubinskas, Vilnius city municipalities Media relations specialist.
The municipality assures that it understands that the situation is inappropriate and does not meet the requirements, and may even cause inconvenience to residents. She promises to solve this problem together with the high school.
It is hoped that the best solution will be found together with the administration of Gabija Gymnasium and there will be fewer similar curiosities in Vilnius.
