From May 2024, 25, passengers from Vilnius airport will be able to fly to Reykjavik (Iceland) with a direct regular flight, the route is planned to be operated by the Icelandic low-cost airline "PLAY airlines", which is starting operations in Lithuania. Flights will be operated once a week.
The company "PLAY airlines" has also established its office in Vilnius since the end of 2021, the company performs part of its business administrative functions from Lithuania.
Ticket sales are already announced on the airline's official website. The airline operates flights with new and modern Airbus A320 or Airbus 321neo planes.
According to Tomas Zitikis, head of the flight development department of Lithuanian airports, the entry of a new airline into our market will create wider opportunities for travelers to get to know Iceland.
"Overall, it is worth noting that this airline operates regular flights not only between the airports of Iceland and European countries, but also offers passengers connections with the East coast of the United States of America and Canada," says T. Zitikis.
The head of the airline emphasized that Iceland and Lithuania still have a close historical connection.
"It's no secret that Iceland and Lithuania have had their long-distance "love affair" for more than thirty years - Iceland supported the independence of the Baltic states and was the first Western country to recognize Lithuania's independence. And in this case, we are happy to be able to offer Lithuania our flights to Iceland. We offer competitive prices, so we hope to further strengthen the connection between these two countries," says PLAY Airlines CEO Birgir Jónsson.
