When the country is covered with snow, we, like probably many others, rush down the mountain with our children at every opportunity. What about sleds, what about skis, what about tires. Entertainment is fun for both children and their parents. However, it is also not safe.

A few years ago, I even had to stay in the hospital with my elder due to carelessness.

We were partly to blame for underestimating our own safety. However, both the parents who accompanied the children and the older children who came should be more careful and protect the younger ones.

I've been noticing a lot of extremely dangerous situations that are terrifying for several years now. When children are skating with sleds or tires, they put them on the road, hit a tree, a pole, or another skater.

Just recently, while we were driving in Vilnius, a man who came down the mountain at great speed (!) literally "smashed" a child in front of us. He even took his breath away.

Maybe he didn't see, maybe he didn't have time to turn, or maybe, it's scary to even think, he just thought of playing "bowling"? He neither screamed to leave, nor tried to maneuver or simply roll out of his plastic "sled".

The worst thing for me in this situation was that the man didn't even go to the child to at least apologize or see if he was healthy... The man was rude, the child was small. Such a collision could have ended tragically.

A strong impact could have caused serious injury. But for some reason no one was interested.

That indifference shocked me the most. Our indifference and desire to look only at our own good, our own affairs, is appalling. It made me terribly nervous that people do not learn from the misfortunes of others or from their own.

Watching those skating down the mountain and climbing it to get down again gave the impression that no one cares about the safety of others or their children.

Despite the fact that in front of everyone's eyes, children are being beaten like pins by other entertainers, proud mothers, fathers and their little ones are climbing the ski track itself. They boldly step not in the corners, but in the very middle. What's wrong with them, everyone will leave...

It - no, definitely will not go away. Because others, it turns out, are just as proud and only looking out for their own comfort. Both descending from the mountain and climbing it.

I don't know if I wrote the moral of this letter clearly. I just wanted to say out loud to all parents to protect their children and others, not to play brave or more righteous than others.

I think that the crown will not fall on any parent if they protect their own and other's children, discipline those who misbehave, do not follow elementary safety rules, do not behave like this themselves and do not set a bad example for others.

Don't get cold, enjoy winter and its gifts, and don't forget to protect your and other children! Because I know from personal experience how painful the consequences are.
