Not only Lithuanian rulers, but also nobles liked to "topple" mountains.

Domininkas Mykolas Sluška, the Voivodeship of Polotsk (about 1655 - 1713) built a palace, on the facade of which he nailed a marble board with the inscription:

"I pushed down the mountains, I calmed the whirlwinds of the Neris, I rose above the hilltops like a winner, without leaning on them, I became a haven of peace and the first monument of Antakalnis. Upon entering this palace, the guest leaves behind the toga of office and his military insignia - he will be soothed here by the goddess of peace and the companionship of the guardian moon."

It is known from historical sources that before the construction of the Sluški Palace began, the previous buildings of the nobles Kiški and Pacai were demolished, and the new palace was built by changing the bank of the Neris River, the construction site was specially leveled, and soil was taken from the hill that separated Vilnius from Antakalnis.

The palace was completed around 1700. In the XNUMXth century, a penal servitude prison operated here, and after World War II, a German prisoner of war camp.
