In the very center of the capital's Vilniaus Street stands the well-known two-story St. Catherine's Church. If we were to go back a few hundred years, we would walk on the outskirts of the city of Vilnius, which stretched near the church.

Where Klaipėda Street is now in Vilnius, a few hundred years ago, the city's border stretched. Now these stones blend in with the railings and painted walls, so the eyes of passers-by are rarely caught.

"In other places in Vilnius, for example, at the Aušra gate, it is very easy to imagine that this is where the city ended, you pass through the gate and it was already the countryside. It is much more difficult to imagine it in other parts of the old town. The remaining stones symbolize the fact that there was still a city here, and if we crossed to the other side, we would already be in the suburbs," says guide Albertas Kazlauskas.

The ensemble of the Benedictine monastery, which is decorated with St. Catherine's Church, established in Vilnius in 1620. Here the nuns were invited by Mikalojus and Kotryna Horodiskai.

"Neither the church nor the monastery looked like what we see now. We had to wait until the 1737th century for it to take its current form. middle This is a period typical of many Baroque monuments in Vilnius. XNUMXth century in the first half, Vilnius was terrorized by fires, the great one in XNUMX. fire everything around was horrible, practically everything had to be rebuilt," says A. Kazlauskas.

St. Catherine's Church was rebuilt by the architect Jonas Kristupas Glaubicas, who, according to the interviewer, can be called the creator of the Vilnius Baroque School.
