The first round of the Lithuanian Women's Rugby 7 Championship was held in Vilnius on Sunday. Last year's vice-champion Vilnius "Heležinio vilkos" team triumphed in it, not leaving the rivals even thoughts of a different outcome of the tournament.

In this tournament, the impressive series of victories of Šiauliai "Vair" team ended. Having become national champions for two years in a row, Vairo rugby players did not experience a single failure last year. In Vilnius, they had to accept the superiority of the "Iron Wolf" team and settle for second place.

For the first time, the "Gelezinio vilkos" team also delegated its second team to the championships, which came last, fourth. The third position was taken by the Šiauliai "Baltrex-Šiauliai" women's team.

The tour in Vilnius started with convincing victories of the favorites - Vairas, coached by the well-deserved coach Sigitas Kukulskis, defeated the Vilnius "Iron Wolf-40" team 5:2, and the main team of "Heležinio vilkos" led by the coach of the Lithuanian women's national team, Kristianas Tautvydas Jakuba, beat "Baltrex-29" 0:XNUMX. Siauliai".

Later, the picture remained similar - "Heležinis vilkas" crushed their doubles 39:0, and in the Šiauliai derby "Vairietės" won 45:0.

Both the first and third place winners were decided in the decisive match, but they also lacked intrigue. "Baltrex-Šiaulių" rugby players proved their superiority over the "Geležinio vilko-29" team by 5:2.

Meanwhile, in the intriguing battle of the leaders, the girls of "Geležinio vilkos" from the capital showed more desire from the beginning of the meeting and took advantage of almost every mistake of the Vairo club players. The girls from Vilnius defeated Vaira 27-0 and became the winners of the first round.

"The result speaks for itself. The girls played well. Of course, there were bugs that we will have to fix, but so far the result is great. We beat Vaira for the first time and at home, so I'm very happy. - said the coach of "Heležinio vilkos" KT Jakuba. - Our biggest advantage this time was in scrums. Instead of a quick attack, we chose to scramble, we closed down dangerous players and that way we were able to play more easily. I have no doubt that "Vairas" will draw its own conclusions and will fight for the first place in the next stages. We will prepare for it and try to maintain the leading position."

KT Jakubas added that the emergence of the second team shows the strengthening and growing "Iron Wolf" rugby community. He does not hide that he would not be surprised if a third team appeared in the future.

The second stage of the Lithuanian women's rugby-7 championship is scheduled for May 4 in Šiauliai, and the third stage for May 18 in Vilnius. The results of the two best stages will be counted in the final standings. The Kaunas "Ažuolo" team, which did not play in the first round, is also registered for the championships.
