On February 1-2 of next year, it will be possible to see the most titled men's tennis team of all time in Vilnius. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirmed that the Davis Cup qualifying match between Ukraine and JAV of national teams will be held in SEB Arena. The team that wins this match will be among the 16 teams that will continue the fight for the right to be called 2024 in the fall. Davis Cup champions.
This meeting was supposed to take place in Ukraine, but due to the ongoing aggression of Russia, Ukrainians cannot do this in their own country.
"I can only say that Christmas came a little earlier for our tennis fans this year. In the last 2 years, we have already got used to the passions of the Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup doubles, ATP Challenger Series tournaments held at SEB Arena. However, I think that the arrival of the US national team in Vilnius and the game in SEB Arena is another level event. We have not had such a tennis constellation in Lithuania yet and I don't know when we will have it in the near future. I strongly believe that Lithuanians who love tennis will appreciate the opportunity to see tennis players competing for titles in the world's biggest tournaments up close. At the same time, I really want to thank the Ukrainian Tennis Federation for this opportunity. I can assure you that we will do everything to make Ukrainians who are experiencing a tragedy in their country feel at home in Vilnius", says the president of the Lithuanian Tennis Union, Ramūnas Grušas.
The USA national team has won the Davis Cup 32 times. Currently, there are 10 Americans among the hundred most powerful tennis players in the world. Taylor Fritz is 10th in the ATP rankings, Tommy Paul is 13th, Frances Tiafoe is 16th, Ben Shelton is 17th, Sebastian Korda is 24th. The top 34 also includes Christopher Eubanks (ATP-41), Mackenzie McDonald (ATP-53), J.J. Wolf (ATP-60), Marcos Giron (ATP-97) and Alex Michelsen (ATP-XNUMX).
The captain of the US national team, the legendary Bob Bryan, who won 23 doubles titles in his career, has an equally impressive selection in doubles. The leader of the ATP doubles ranking is currently the American Austin Krajiček, and the 6th position in this ranking is occupied by Rajeev Ram.
The best Ukrainian tennis player Vitaliy Sachko is 170th in the ATP classification. Illya Marchenko is 220th in the ATP rankings, Oleksii Krutykh is 295th and Erik Vanshelboim is 393rd. The captain of the Ukrainian national team is Orest Tereshchuk.
The exact composition of the national teams will be revealed in the middle of January next year. Tickets for this meeting can already be purchased on the kakava.lt platform.
The Davis Cup match between Ukraine and the USA will be the third time that Ukrainians play their home matches in Vilnius. In September of last year, the men's national team of this country fought against the Hungarian team at SEB Arena, and in November of this year, the Ukrainian women's national team defeated the Dutch team in the Billie Jean King Cup meeting.
Immediately after the confrontation between the Ukrainians and the Americans, the best tennis players from Lithuania and Sakartvelo will step onto the SEB Arena courts. The Davis Cup meeting between these teams will take place on February 3-4 next year.
