The World Swimming Championship continues in Fukuoka (Japan). On Monday morning, the Lithuanian swimmer Rūta Meilutytė demonstrated the highest skill, confidently entering the semi-finals of the women's 100 m breaststroke.
The 26-year-old girl from Kaunas not only won her qualifying swim, but was also the first in the overall standings to record a solid 1 min. 4,67 sec. time No athlete swam so fast this season.
R. Meilutytė already swam very close to her personal and previous world record (1 min. 4,35 sec.), which the Lithuanian had achieved back in 2013, in the qualifying competition.
Another Lithuanian swimmer fell short of the Olympic standard (1 min. 6,79 sec) this morning Kotryna Teterevkova. The 21-year-old girl from Vilnius covered the distance in 1 minute. 6,96 sec. and took 17th place in the total number of participants.
The 100th fastest participants entered the women's 16 m breaststroke semifinal, so K. Teterevkova will be the first reserve.

Since 2017, the world record for this event still belongs to the American Lilly King - 1 min. 4,13 sec. The latter athlete was fourth in the qualification.
