After it became clear on Tuesday that the Lithuanian football champion Vilnius "Žalgiris" should play in the Champions League selection against the team from North Macedonia "FC Struga" in the capital on July 11-12, the club applied to UEFA to change the date.

As the club states in the announcement, "Žalgiris" has already "submitted a request for changing the venue of the match due to the event that will take place on those days."

"Zalgiris" should play in Struga, North Macedonia on July 18-19.

It is proposed to play the first match on July 11-12 in North Macedonia, and then in Vilnius.

According to Vaidotas Januška, head of communication of "Žalgiris", the answer is expected to be received on Tuesday evening.

According to him, the club hopes that the dates will be changed. According to the head of communication, otherwise, the main problems would be with the rivals.

"Our job is to have the stadium and host it. I think we could do that, but we hope that we won't need it," said V. Januška.

V. Januška also noted that the club received a recommendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to hold competitions on July 11-12.

According to him, the visiting team is responsible for the accommodation and flights.

The executive director of the Lithuanian Hotel and Restaurant Association, Eglė Ližaitytė, told BNS that all business class hotels in the center of Vilnius will be 100 percent occupied during the week of the NATO meeting.

Also, taking into account NATO's security requirements, from July 11 at 12:12 p.m. until July 14 at 30 p.m. in the airspace within a radius of XNUMX kilometers around "LitexpoAll flights of commercial aircraft will be banned from the exhibition hall.
