"The talented Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna won the gold medal at the European Athletics U23 age group championship in Finland", - the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports (ŠMSM) shared the news on its Facebook page.
"Not only did he not face any competition, he also met the Olympic Games standard," the Facebook post added.
According to the record published by the ministry, the discus thrown by M. Alekna flew 67,87 m. Such a result made it possible to reach the standard for the Paris Olympic Games.
"The 20-year-old athlete established himself in the leading position on his first attempt, when his thrown tool flew 67,87 m. Such a result immediately allowed M. Alekna not only to reach the norm of the Paris Olympic Games (67,20 m), but also to become the record holder of the European U23 Championship", writes the ministry.
