Vilnius remained the only capital of the Baltic States, which still does not have the prestigious "Michelin" rating. A year ago, even two of Tallinn received Michelin stars restaurants, and last week Riga was happy that the first star came to them.
Max Cekot Kitchen, led by chef Maksim Cekots, received the first and only Michelin rating in Riga. The evaluators visited 30 restaurants and selected 22 that were included in the Michelin guide. A year ago, it was announced that Riga decided to pay for the visit of "Michelin" evaluators and the evaluation of restaurants in Riga. This stay of evaluators cost the capital of Latvia 150 thousand. euros.
The Riga tourism agency did not miss the opportunity to make fun of Vilnius. Live Riga shared a meme on its page, in which it put one star on the heart of an artistic sculpture.
"Hey, Go Vilnius, just so you know - this is what it feels like to have a Michelin star on your chest. Keep dreaming, brother, your day will come soon," Live Riga exclaims.
Soon, "Go Vilnius" placed its comment on this topic under the post.
"LIVE RIGA, congratulations! We didn't notice - we were busy creating the most amazing Christmas ever. It must be fun to finally be the first in something. Oh, that's right... Visit Tallinn", the Vilnius City Development Agency did not miss the opportunity to mock.
In August, it was announced that Lithuania could also soon receive its first Michelin star. The president of the Lithuanian Hotel and Restaurant Association, Evalda Šiškauskienė, said that the contract between the representatives of Lithuania and the representatives of the "Michelin" guide has already been signed, but it has not been announced publicly.
The organizations responsible for attracting Michelin to Lithuania do not disclose details about attracting the prestigious rating to Lithuania. According to them, all information related to this is confidential, but the processes are ongoing. We wrote more about it here.
