The European Humanitarian University (EHU) operating in Vilnius received threats from the Belarusian regime. In this context, the rector of the university, Krzystof Rybinskis, resigned from his position on Thursday, writes the portal Delfi.lt.
It is reported that the regime of Aliaksandr Lukashenka threatens to declare the university an extremist organization, which would threaten Belarusian students and teachers with real imprisonment in their homeland.
The higher school started to be afraid of the possible presence of collaborators of A. Lukashenka's regime here, since, as the portal points out, some teachers often go to Belarus without any major obstacles.
According to Delfi.lt, part of EHU employees and students have already severed ties with the university.
ELTA reminds that EHU is a private university that was established in Minsk in 1992. Later, the Belarusian authorities closed the higher school.
20 years ago, the university accepted the invitation of the Lithuanian Government and moved to Vilnius.
In 2019, the Government of Lithuania granted the university a special status - it recognized it as operating in exile for political reasons.
