July 5 Vilnius University Robert Huber, director emeritus of the German Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and professor at the Technical University of Munich, Nobel Prize laureate biochemist Robert Huber will visit (VU).

in 2011 R. Huber was awarded the title of honorary doctor of VU, and on February 16 of this year. the scientist was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order "For Services to Lithuania", which will be presented to him by the country's presidency on July 4.

During the visit, the professor will give an open lecture "New Ways of Vision: Protein Structures in Translational Medicine and Business Development - my Experience" at the VU Life Sciences Center.

R. Huber was born in 1937. In Germany. He studied chemistry at the Technical University of Munich. Since 1960 worked at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, and in 1971 became the director of this institute. Since 1976 is a professor at the Technical University of Munich.

in 1988 R. Huber, Johann Deisenhofer and Hartmut Michel became winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the crystallization of an intramembrane protein and the revealing of its spatial structure by X-ray crystallography.

The world-renowned biochemist has been in close contact with VU Biotechnology Institute researchers for many years. Encouraged by Professor R. Huber, the institute's researchers began researching the spatial structure of protein molecules. In support of these works, the professor donated his laboratory research equipment to the institute and actively participated in joint research.
