Karaimų street - part of the old town of Trakai and one of the biggest centers of attraction in the entire Trakai district - has been a pedestrian street since September 4. This object, distinguished by its authenticity, history, which reflects the traditions of the Karaite nation not only in its architectural but also in its cultural or culinary heritage, is changing its image.

In order to encourage guests or residents of the city to rediscover this part of the old town of Trakai, not only by passing through it to the castle of Trakai Island, a decision was made to limit car traffic, giving priority to pedestrians and cyclists. For that purpose, the humanization project of Karaių Street was prepared, the decisions regarding the organization of traffic and the implementation of other measures of sustainable mobility were repeatedly presented and discussed with the public, and the insights and comments of the residents of the city of Trakai were taken into account.

In order to ensure safe and comfortable conditions for pedestrians and environmentally friendly means of sustainable mobility for those choosing to get to know the national, historical and cultural heritage of the central part of the city of Trakai, to abandon the old town of Trakai as a chaotic traffic jam parking lots, image, from September 4, the traffic of motor vehicles will be restricted on Karaimų street from St. John Nepomuk's chapel pillar to the Castle observation deck. August 28-29 horizontal street marking works will be carried out, during which from 8.00 a.m. to 17.00 p.m. traffic will be temporarily restricted.

Traffic movement in the old town - the aforementioned section of Karaimų Street - will be unrestricted for the residents of this street and for special and service transport, as defined by the Road Traffic Safety Rules, and stop islands will be installed for them.

We invite everyone coming to Trakus to choose public transport or leave their cars in the free parking lots at the city's entrance - Vilniaus Mažoji st. 2A (next to Trakai market), on Senkelios street or Karaimų st. 99C and 99B and continue your further journey by city bus.
