The periphery of the Trakai district hides more than a dozen less well-known, but unique places that are definitely worth visiting this spring.

Each of these places surprises with its uniqueness and historical and cultural values. Therefore, on the upcoming warm spring weekend, we invite everyone to go to the periphery of Trakai district and see for yourself.

1. Onuškis town

Onuškis, 30 km from the city of Trakai, can be reached by two roads: by driving in the direction of Rūdiškės–Dusmenys–Alytus or towards Aukštadvaris. Both roads are equally beautiful, winding through the regional park, surrounded by mixed forests, sparkling lakes, meandering streams, telmological and geomorphological reserves.

Historical places remind us of the glorious past of Onuškis. The face of the town is solidified by a huge cathedral. It is so magnificent that you start to think that Onuškis is not the center of a district, but of a considerable district. St. The Church of the Apostles Philip and James, with features of late classicism and romanticism, was built according to the Vilnius Archcathedral. This church was built in a small town in 1829 - 28 years after the construction of the Vilnius Archcathedral.

Pilgrim St. passes through Onuškis. Jacob's Way in Lithuania. Another unique object of Onuškis is the stone-paved historical square of Petrauskas of Cyprus - since ancient times, festivals and fairs were held there, taverns, teahouses, and shops were located in the surrounding houses.

In 2024, it is worth visiting Onuškis also because this year the town is the cultural capital of Little Lithuania.

2. Shine Lake

As the name suggests, this body of water really shines emerald. The impressively colored lake can be found halfway between Trakai and Aukštadvaris. It turns out that Spindžius acquires a greenish color when the sun shines due to the algae in the lake. It seemed to me that this lake is no less green than the capital's Green Lakes.

And there are many other beautiful natural places around Spindźi, which are connected by the nearby 7,5 km long Green Educational Walking Trail.

3. The stony kiss of Neria and Saidė - Saidė's educational trail

Although this wildlife trail is only one and a half kilometers long, there are many things to see here. First of all, the unique stream named Saidė stands out for its beauty, flowing through many stones and its gurgling can be heard from afar.

Standing at the meeting place of these rivers and looking at the huge silty boulders in the water, the steep slopes of the stream valley and the giant trees, it is easy to feel as if you are not in Lithuania at all. Such a landscape is not typical for our region, it is more reminiscent of Scandinavian countries. However, this short, barely 5 km long Saidė stream, happily gurgling through the stones rolled in its bed, carries its own waters from the historical Trakai lake system to the mother of Lithuanian rivers - the Neris.

4. Waterfalls of Vilsa stream

Natural waterfalls in Lithuania? Really so! If you are curious to see them, travel to the Vilsa stream.

The coast of the Vilsa stream in the Trakai district, in Zemejois Semeniukui, leading to the waterfalls, is not suitable for comfortable walking. So travel there only if you are ready to go through the bushes and grass on a narrow, sometimes interrupted, sometimes reappearing path. And you can go along the banks of the Vilsa stream all the way to the point where it flows into the Neris.

Although it is only a couple of kilometers long, hiking along its coast you will discover many swirling eddies and stream currents rushing through the rapids.
