According to the portal that investigated illegal landfills in Lithuania, this is the largest fine for this type of environmental violation.
"After calculating the density of discarded waste, it was found that the preliminary mass of waste on the plot of land is 9974,34 tons, the damage caused (according to preliminary calculations) to the environment is 103 EUR," AAD representative Renata Surovec told "992min".
The fine is for Vilnius district An illegal landfill, where waste was burned and buried, has been operating on the plots located in the village of Juodias, probably since 2010.
The portal claims that the illegal activities were coordinated by Daryushas Zareckis, previously convicted of various crimes, and the group led by him provided waste collection and removal services.
The waste will have to be managed by the National Land Service managing the plot, the management costs can be recovered from D. Zareckis.
Last February, the portal "15min" published an investigation about a 1,7-hectare illegal black dump found in the Marijampoli forest in the Vilnius district.
According to the portal, for more than half a year, department officials were unable to ensure control over illegal carriers.
