Today, October 6, at 15 p.m. a symbolic capsule will be buried, which will mark the beginning of the reconstruction of the Lentvaris railway crossing and the construction of the underground tunnel. Lentvaris has been waiting for this historic day for several decades.

Minister of Transport Jaroslavas Narkevič, Mayor of Trakai District Municipality Edita Rudelienė, Director of the Directorate of Roads of Lithuania Remigijus Lipkevičius, company "Lithuanian railwaysGeneral Director Mantas Bartuška, representatives of other companies and institutions that worked on this project. Residents of Lentvaris and Trakai districts are invited to participate in the excavation of the capsule and the beginning of the reconstruction of the crossing and the construction of the tunnel.

The reconstructed railway crossing and the built tunnel will significantly improve the communication conditions in Lentvary, which is divided into two parts by the railway line and due to the intense train traffic at the crossing, traffic jams are constantly created.

The contract for the implementation of this project was signed on September 15. The value of the contract is 20,7 million. euros. The works must be completed within 9 months from the entry into force of the contract.

The project will be implemented in accordance with the partnership agreement of Lithuanian Motorway Directorate, Trakai District Municipality and Lietuvos Geležinkeliai AB, signed in 2020. August 19 It is financed by the Road Maintenance and Development Program and European Union investments.

"We worked intensively and responsibly on this project for several years. Therefore, its beginning is great good news for the residents of Lentvaris and the entire municipality of Trakai district.

We succeeded because the Ministry of Transport and the three partners of this project cooperated harmoniously and understood each other: the Directorate of Motorways of Lithuania, the company "Lietuvos Geležinkeliai" and the Municipality of Trakai District. This is a fundamental change in the infrastructure of the district, which we have been striving for for a long time and persistently. Knowing what big changes we will see, we see that a better future is no longer words, but a reality", - explained the significance of this project, the mayor of the district municipality, Edita Rudelienė.
