Vilnius district the municipal council finally approved the decision to create and implement the "Vilnius District Resident Card". A relevant and attractive card or mobile application for modern society would not only give its users discounts on a wide range of services, but also allow them to be more involved in the life of the district. The preparatory works of the concept will start soon.

"The new resident card system will provide in Vilnius district for registered persons, the opportunity to visit cultural, sports events, museums and other institutions, the founder of which is cheaper Vilnius District Municipality, as well as take advantage of discounts for education, sports and other activities", says Robert Duchnevič, mayor of the Vilnius district municipality.

According to one of the authors of the proposal, council member Waldemar Urban, the practice of the resident card is already being implemented in several municipalities in the country and it is hoped that it will be successfully implemented in the Vilnius district as well. According to him, the purpose of the idea of the resident's card is to encourage residents of the district to use the services provided by municipal institutions more often, to be the first to try innovations, to receive relevant information, as well as to take advantage of discounts offered by businesses and institutions.

In order to achieve a wider range of services, business entities operating in the area will be invited to join the implementation of the idea. According to the developers of the decision, any business that wants to will be able to join, and they call it a kind of prestige issue. Flower or clothing stores, cafes, entertainment areas, beauty salons, car services - all participating businesses would be marked as socially responsible.

According to the proposal's co-author, council member Ruslan Baranov, a connected business would become more visible and easier to find. He also hopes that people who use the resident's card will feel even more strongly part of the Vilnius district.

This initiative was jointly submitted by Lithuanian Poles' election campaign - Union of Christian Families (LLRA-KŠS) and factions of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP). The implementation of such a resident's card is provided for in the cooperation agreement, which was signed by Vilnius district mayor Robert Duchnevič and the elders of the aforementioned factions back in the summer. Both political forces envisioned this in their programs.
