Vilnius district The municipal council approved the decision to reconstruct three educational institutions in the district: Vilnius district. St. Nemesis Rapolas Kalinauskas Gymnasium, Nemėžis Children's Nursery-Kindergarten and Buivydiškii Kindergarten. Buildings-extensions are planned to be connected to the existing buildings, thus creating 230 new preschool education places.
The mayor of the Vilnius district municipality, Robert Duchnevič, notes that this project is one of the initiated measures aimed at increasing the availability of kindergartens in the district.
"in Vilnius district Nemėžys and Zujūnai wards are among the areas with the fastest growing population. There are long waiting lines for kindergartens in them. The problem arose due to the lack of space in the mentioned institutions when setting up additional preschool education groups. Currently, they can accept only a very limited number of students. After the Council approves the aforementioned decision, it will now be possible not only to increase the scope of education provision, to improve the quality of this service, but also to organize the public infrastructure", says R. Duchnevič.

The Council also approved the decision to partially change the 2021-2025 general plan for the transformation of the general education school network of the Vilnius District Municipality. Until 2024 August 31 internal structure transformations will be carried out: Vilnius r. The type of school-kindergarten "Margaspalvisis aitvarėlis" in Vaidotai will be changed from a school-kindergarten to a nursery-kindergarten, and near Vilnius r. Rukainiai high school will be connected to Vilnius district. St. Medininkai Kazimierz Gymnasium and Medininkų Preschool Education Department (will become a department of Vilnius District Rukainai Gymnasium).
The municipality reminds that this September it is planned to open a nursery-kindergarten in Didižioi Riešė. Construction works are currently being completed. It is planned to establish 8 preschool education groups here, which will be able to be attended by 125 children. In addition, for the first time in the Vilnius region, the municipality plans to implement a rental program for modular kindergartens.
