Vilnius district the municipal council finally approved the decision to implement the participatory budget measure for the first time in this municipality already this year. It will allow residents of the district to submit project ideas in public spaces and decide how and where to use the funds. The municipality plans to allocate 100 for this. euros.
Robert Duchnevič, the mayor of the Vilnius district municipality who initiated the participatory budget, notes that it is an effective measure that further encourages and empowers residents to directly participate in self-government decision-making, helps realize the ideas and needs of communities.
"In the election program, we stated that we will aim to implement a participatory budget - to give residents the opportunity to decide how to use part of the district's budget funds. I am pleased that this measure was approved by the council. It will contribute to the fact that, together with the residents, we will improve the environment and the quality of life in the district", says R. Duchnevič.
The prepared description of the procedure for the implementation of the participative budget measure of the Vilnius district municipality establishes the procedure for submitting proposals, evaluating, selecting, allocating funds and implementing project ideas initiated by the municipality's residents in public spaces funded by the municipal budget.

The Vilnius District Municipal Council also finally approved the selection and financing measure for the student initiative projects of the participatory budgeting of schools in the Vilnius District Municipality.
It will allow students to participate and decide how certain funds allocated to their school will be used.
This initiative will give students more power to make decisions on how to use school budget funds, students will implement ideas in their communities that they think are important and significant.
It is planned to allocate up to 20 thousand from the municipal budget to the participating budget of schools this year. euros.
