A worried reader contacted the MadeinVilnius.lt portal. She noticed, Pylimo st. near the Architecture Department of VGTU, growing young trees are attacked by pests, and the municipality does nothing about it. The municipality, as soon as it became aware of this situation, began to take the necessary steps to save the trees.
"Specialists found that the young trees on Pylimo Street near Vilnius Tech Faculty of Architecture have been attacked by aphids. These pests not only harm the aesthetic appearance of the trees, but also weaken them, and there is also a risk that the pests will attack more trees," said Gabrielius Grubinskas, Vilnius city municipalities Media relations specialist.
The municipality has already taken the necessary steps and hopes to start the rescue operation of the young, recently planted trees soon.
"Vilnius municipality has already applied to the State Horticultural Service for permission to use insecticides. After receiving the permission, the trees would be sprayed immediately", informed the municipal specialist.
A couple of years ago Vilnius city municipality took on the goal of planting as many bushes and trees as possible in the city. Then the municipality took on the ambitious goal of making all city streets greener and more pleasant within 2 years. During this time, more than 100 trees were planted for this purpose. trees, 10 million bushes and 300 thousand creepers.
