The fire sirens are not silent in the dormitories. It is not clear whether this is due to burnt pancakes by students or unsafe behavior. However, students no longer pay attention to them, because, according to them, they howl often, and the danger is never seen. Some don't hear them at all.

The students say they stopped responding because they never saw a real fire.

"Anyway, we usually stay, because it's usual that nothing happens. At the beginning, yes, we were scared and tried to leave as soon as possible, and later, realizing that nothing serious was happening, we simply returned," said the student.

"Now I have a somewhat neutral reaction. I know it's bad, but somehow we get used to those sirens. At first, it really happened that we would go out into the corridor, check with the neighbors, what was going on here, whether we were burning or not, and now, when we realized that they are just helping to sound unnecessarily, somehow we don't react any more," seconded another.

"Usually we stay, because I understand that maybe the detector is triggered by someone there, it's not like, "Oh, I'll take it here now and run." And anyway, those detectors go off too often for me to run," said another student.

Firefighters warn that it is not safe to not respond to fire alarms and advise that when the alarm goes off, "don't sit in the room and think that it's just another fire and you need to stay in the room." The person should make sure that there is no smoke or flames in the premises, meet other residents and ask if they have seen something. If the signals are repeated, evacuate the building and return to the premises only after making sure that everything is fine.

"Both in dormitories, as well as in other residential buildings or in general premises where a fire alarm system is installed, its operation should definitely be taken seriously. When you hear the signal, you should leave the room you are in and enter the common rooms," the firefighter explained how to proceed.

It is true that sometimes during renovation work in the building, smoke detectors may not be properly insulated and start howling due to dust. "If the situation is repeated, you should communicate with the persons who look after the building, administrators or other managers, well, and try to find out why the alarm keeps going off," advised the firefighter.

Dormitories have a procedure for how to respond in case of danger. If it is true, students would be warned not only by sirens, but also by dormitory staff. "Both university employees and Fire Protection and Rescue Department employees would evacuate people. It would be reported that you need to leave the building, evacuate, etc.," the interviewer said.

A month ago, due to a fire in a room, students were evacuated from a dormitory in Saulėtekii. That's why firefighters advise to always stay alert.
