In Vingo Park, next to the stage, the storage room served the residents for a long time and enjoyed great interest. Recently, Vilnius residents noticed that it is no longer possible to leave personal belongings in the storage room. The municipality has confirmed - the operation of the storage facility has been suspended.
The municipality introduced the idea of a storage or storage box three years ago. Residents could leave their belongings, jackets, and backpacks here. The vault could be unlocked and locked using just a fingerprint. This is one of the reasons why its activities had to be stopped.
"Several problems have been noticed since the storage facility was built. First of all, in many cases, users pushed the cabinets too much, causing the door closing/opening mechanism to jam. In addition, not all people were able to use the vault, as it is locked with a fingerprint. It became obvious that in order to ensure that such a publicly accessible repository would function properly and conveniently, 24/7 maintenance and user support would be required. As a result, the operation of the storage facility was stopped," said Gabrielius Grubinskas, Vilnius city municipalities Media relations specialist.
However, the municipality's idea worked, and the residents are waiting for the storage to be used again. The municipality does not abandon this idea and promises that the storage will continue to operate in the future.
Seeing the need for storage at this location, an alternative locking system is currently being considered. The municipality will try to ensure that the storage facility is not only convenient, but also functional and does not require 24/7 technical service.
