This year, the cherry blossoms pleased the people of Vilnius earlier than ever. Summer weather and the desire to take pictures next to sakura trees attracted crowds of people to social networks. This led to the fact that Upės st. just drowned in traffic jams. Politicians started proposing to ban car traffic on Upės st. during cherry blossoms. We asked Vilnius residents what they think about such a possible decision.
36 percent of those surveyed (536 votes) answered that the movement of cars does not bother them and there is no need to ban it. 30 percent disagree with them. of respondents (448 votes) who think that the traffic on Upės st. should be stopped.
Another 18 percent would agree with this scenario. people (276 votes) with the condition that traffic is prohibited partially or during certain hours. Another 16 percent (237 votes) the question turned out to be irrelevant.
A total of 1497 readers participated in the MadeinVilnius.lt survey. The survey ran from Monday 15 April to Friday 19 April.
Although the cherry blossoms are no longer in bloom, traffic jams occur in this area every year. More than one politician is surprised by the decision of the people of Vilnius to go to see the cherry blossoms with their cars. Member of the Seimas T. Tomilinas publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with such behavior of Vilnius residents on his Facebook account and even suggested to the Vilnius City Municipality to ban car traffic on Upė Street during the cherry blossom season.
