After the city of Vilnius followed the example of other municipalities and renewed the heating season on Monday, the representative of the capital municipality says that the residents themselves should decide when to start or stop the heat supply.

"It would really be very good for the residents themselves to make decisions, that is, how much heating they need, how much they use. Now the municipality is forced to centrally manage the start and end of that heating, although this is probably the decision of the residents," Kęstutis Karos, head of the municipality's Energy Department, told reporters on Monday.

According to him, after the unusually warm beginning of April, when the weather cooled down again, only about 20 percent used the right to independently renew the heat supply. of all apartment buildings.

"Residents should make their own decision when to start and when to end the heating season, and there would be no such complaints," emphasized K. Karos.

In the city of Vilnius, the heating season was terminated in the second week of April. According to K. Karos, the municipality decided to end the heating season due to the warm weather and the dissatisfaction of the residents.

"The forecasts indicated that it is quite warm, 14-16 degrees. Taking into account this and the influx of residents, indignation as to why the heating is kept, we made such a decision," the representative of the municipality testified.

According to the municipality, the heat supply in apartment buildings with modernized heat points is turned on by house administrators or designated system supervisors. At that time, residents of the old town may have to wait until Tuesday for heat supply.

When the weather cools down, a large number of other municipalities in the country also renew or extend the heating season.

Valdas Lukoševičius, president of the Lithuanian Heat Suppliers Association, told BNS on Monday that there was no need to stop the heating at the beginning of April when the weather warmed up. According to him, its renovation means additional costs, which is why, according to him, the capital city municipality made a mistake by cutting off the heating so early.
