Valdas Lukoševičius, president of the Lithuanian Heat Suppliers Association, calls the decision of the Vilnius municipality to end the heating season at the beginning of April a mistake and predicts that renewed heating will lead to higher heat consumption and higher heating bills.
"In April, the average bill will be around 60 euros for a standard apartment. It costs about 2 euros to heat an apartment for about a day. So if we saved there for a week or something like that, you can calculate how much the residents saved.
But now, when it is necessary to heat the cooled houses again, that amount of heat will practically be returned back, because now it is necessary not only to maintain the temperature, but also to heat the cooled houses. The heat consumption will be much higher and it will be expensive," V. Lukoševičius told LRT radio on Tuesday.
"It's an extra cost to run, and the savings at these temperatures aren't huge per day." Therefore, it really didn't work here, but it happened as it happened," he added.
Speaking about the heating season, the president of LŠTA also emphasized that it should not be announced either its beginning or its end. According to him, the buildings have installed heat points that are able to react to the temperature and supply the house with the required amount of heat.
"We made a huge investment two decades ago. Group boilers were abolished in Lithuania and replaced by individual heat points, which are installed in every house and building. And this heat point, reacting to the outdoor and indoor temperature, maintains the required temperature and consumes only the amount of heat needed for such a building. It makes no sense to perform a function for the municipality for him now. That's why automatic well-regulating systems were made, which could regulate the heating of each building according to needs", noted V. Lukoševičius.
ELTA reminds that Vilnius announced that this year's heating season will end on April 9.
